  • CI - Creditor Identifier

    General

The SEPA direct debit scheme requires an account independent, unique identifier to identify the direct debit creditor. This creditor identification number is redirected by the banking industry from the payee to the payer and allows the examination of the legality of the claim.

    Structure

The CI consists of maximum 35 alpha numeric characters. It consists of a fixed part with a length of 7 and a national identification with a variable length of up to 28 characters. The fixed part consists of a country code according to ISO 3166-1, a check digit and a business division identifier. The business division identifier can be used by the Direct debit creditor to identify business divisions or branches or it can be filled with the standard value 'ZZZ'.
